June Meeting Highlights

The PMQG was swirling with activity this month!
This month’s program was “Going in Circles”. Lise shared her techniques for sewing free-pieced and tight curves and insetting circles. Malinda shared a handy way to make perfect appliqued circles for any project.

The sky’s the limit for our first big Guild Challenge, because our theme is “WEATHER”! Come up with your best interpretation of any weather phenomenon and put it to fabric. Finished quilts will be displayed at our October meeting. You can find all the details on our new Challenges tab above.

Business: The Guild has decided to abstain from officially joining the new Modern Quilt Guild structure for the time being. The decision can be reconsidered in the future as our group grows.

Show &Tell

Lois made this patriotic “crumb” quilt for Quilts of Valor.

Malinda is seeing spots with this fun design!

Iris’ “John 3:16” quilt, inspired by an album cover.

Gwen’s fun “Bubbles” wall hanging.

NEXT MONTH:
~ We’ll be beating the heat in July with some Strip Poker… Quilting strips that is! To participate, bring 12  2-1/2″ strips (width of fabric) cut from modern fabrics.

~ July’s Block of the Month is the Drunkard’s Path block. You can find the templates HERE. Tutorial HERE

Reminders:
~ Quilt-Along participants (who swapped strips at our March meeting): Create anything you want from your blocks (quilt, table runner, wall hanging, tote bag…)  Your finished projects are due at the OCTOBER meeting. Directions for making your blocks are HERETIP: Be sure the first seam you rip out is a dark fabric and work down from there.

~ There are two opportunities to serve our community as a guild. If there is a lack of interest in these projects, we will discuss dropping them from our agenda. Your comments and suggestions are welcome. Bring your finished items to any meeting.

~ Meeting Minutes can be found on our Facebook page. Members not on Facebook can request the minutes via email at peninsulamqg[at]gmail[dot]com.

Stay cool and sew happy!
