First Meeting Highlights

The first meeting of the Peninsula Modern Quilt Guild was a super success, with just under 50 ladies present!  It was thrilling to see the room full of novices and advanced quilters alike, all ready to explore modern quilting together. So much excitement in one place!
Here’s a peek at some of the fun!

On top of business, we had a little bit of Show-N-Tell and  our first Challenge was presented. Everyone introduced herself, and it’s inspiring to see the amount of talent present within this group. We are going to have a lot of fun. Can’t wait. 🙂

FEBRUARY’S CHALLENGE:
Make a MODERN name tag.
There are only 2 rules: It must measure at least 3-1/2″ x 5″ and it must have a way to attach to your body. That’s it! Ready, set go!

DON’T FORGET to bring your Wonky Cross Blocks to February’s meeting. You can find everything you need to know on the Block of the Month tab above. Just click on the picture!

Happy quilting!

It’s here!

There are only TWO days left  until our first meeting!
We have a lot of exciting stuff in store for the upcoming year, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it.

But we don’t want to do all the talking…  so we need your help! There can’t be a Guild meeting without Show N Tell (that’s a rule, right?), so we’re asking everyone to bring your modern quilts to share with the group. We’ll discuss the Modern Quilting movement and what it means to us.

Your assignment, should you choose to accept it:

~ Leave a comment letting us know you plan to join us!
~ Bring a modern quilt to show (or two or three…)
~ Come prepared to kick off the new year with fun and some new friends!

See you there!

Block of the Month

We’re so excited about this group! (Did I already say that?)  It’s going to be super fun, I can feel it!

To help stave off the anticipation, we’ve published our first Block of the Month – the Wonky Cross.  It’s time to get out those modern fabric scraps and make some fun. The only rule is you may use only two fabrics: one for the background, and one for the cross. Blocks must measure 8.5″ x 8.5″ unfinished.

Here is my first attempt. This block went together in FIVE minutes… actually less, because I made two at one time. Really. They could be addicting…

Fabric from the A Stich In Color collection by Malka Dubrawsky

Make as many as you’d like! Every block you make puts your name in the hat. Blocks will be divvied up and winners will be drawn at our February meeting. The more blocks we have, the more winners!

You can find the Wonky Cross tutorial HERE.  All of the PMQG’s Block of the Month patterns will be posted on the Block of the Month page for easy reference.

Needed ASAP: Quilts & Blankets

I just returned from a trip to the northeast with the Hunk. We actually drove through the fringes of Hurricane Sandy to reach Pennsylvania before the storm hit our destination. The area we were in sustained only minor damage and we lost power for less than 24 hours. We still had gas, so our showers were hot and the stove worked.
So many others were not so fortunate. According to WNYC, 360,000 people in New Jersey are still without power. At least another 11,000 were added to their numbers from this most recent storm.
Today it snowed.

Victoria Findaly Wolfe, President of the NYC Mod Quilt Guild,  has put out a call for blankets to distribute to families left in the cold from Hurricane Sandy and this most recent Nor’easter. Blankets/Quilts can be store-bought or homemade – and any size.
You can find the details HERE.

Even though the Peninsula MQG is not yet officially meeting, I love that we can still count on our quilty friends to answer the call to serve.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for your generosity!
