February Meeting Highlights

Fusing in February was this month’s program, with Lise leading the way. Members brought colorful fabrics to fuse and cut into bright blocks for March’s block of the month.



Business:

~ March’s meeting will usher in some new Officers and Chairs as we gear up for more excitement in 2014. Thank you to those who stepped up to fill the available positions. A BIG shout out to everyone who has worked behind the scenes the past year to get our guild off to a great start!
~ We will be displaying our modern quilts in the Quiltfest Destination Savannah show March 27-30 in Savannah, GA. CHECK YOUR EMAIL for important instructions and dates! 

~ Mid-Atlantic Quilt Fest is coming! 
White Glove Volunteers:

  • You will need to provide your own white gloves. (Joy has one pair left to loan.)
  • You must pay the entrance fee to enter the Show floor.  
  • Check in with the Show Registration Desk 10 minutes prior to your shift. Please allow time for parking, etc. 
Our Raffle Quilt, “Fiesta”, was on display at February’s meeting! Isn’t it gorgeous? Many many thanks to everyone who contributed, and to Quilter’s Dream Batting for supplying the batting. A special thanks to Lise for pulling it all together, Malinda for her quilting skills and Katie for being willing to bind it. Great job, Ladies!

NEXT MONTH:
~ March’s Block of the Month is the Fused Circles block we created at February’s meeting. Make as many blocks as you’d like for more chances to win!
~ March’s program will be Mid-Atlantic Show & Tell. We want to hear all about the workshops, classes and lectures you attended! Plus, bring your goodies and share your plans for new fabrics/supplies. 

~ We will Swap modern Mug Rugs. A Mug Rug is a small quilt just the right size for your mug of something yummy and a small snack. They are also the perfect size to experiment with a new technique, use up scraps or try a new fabric. They can be hand embellished, fused, pieced, bound or turned…anything goes. Mug rugs come in many sizes – if you’re lost a good starting place is 7″ x 10″. You can visit Joy’s Pinterest board for some ideas. Have fun!

It’s a New Year and we’re looking forward to growing as a guild, starting with our new location.  This month members sewed their hearts out in a Jelly Roll Race. What a fun way to complete a quilt top!

Guild elections are coming, and your Guild needs YOU! Nominations are being accepted through February for the upcoming year. (Guild year runs April 1 to April 1). Elections will be held at the March 8th meeting. Nominations can be made through the Guild email or Big Ideas Box. 

We will be displaying our modern quilts in the Quiltfest Destination Savannah (GA) show in March. Your list of quilt submissions must be turned in to Pat W. by noon January 20th. Check your email for details.

Members signed up to White Glove and man the Raffle Quilt table at Mid-Atlantic Quilt Fest. You will need to provide your own white gloves. PLEASE mark your calendars and show up for your allotted time. Questions? Contact Lise S. or email us.

December Meeting Highlights

The PMQG closed out the year with a party, which seems fitting as we complete our first full year as a guild! It’s been a lot of fun getting to know everyone, and we’re looking forward to more fun together in the new year ahead.

This month’s program sent members to Basics Boot Camp, where we brushed up on basic skills and learned some new tricks as we rotated through five stations. A big thank you to the ladies who shared with our troops!

    


Our first Guild Challenge yielded stunning results as members depicted the weather in fabric. From Aurora Borealis to the Green Flash, each quilt is a work of art. Congratulations, ladies on a beautiful job! 


Business: 

Our winter Quilt Show has been postponed until further notice.

Our Raffle Quilt is almost ready to piece together! If you have any blocks left to turn in, please get them to Lise or Joy as quickly as possible. 

Members voted to display our modern quilts in the Quiltfest Destination Savannah (GA) show in March. That’s plenty of time to finish up your modern beauties to show off. More details to come!

~ We’ll take a fun break from the holiday rush to play another round of Strip Poker! To participate, bring at least 12  2.5″ strips (x width of fabric). Fabrics must be white plus another color.  And save your winnings – we’ll be doing something fun with them at January’s meeting. 🙂 Here are some pretty examples of white and another color Malinda put together. Black and white are okay, too.


~ November’s Block of the Month are Small Tree blocks. For each entry, please make 4 blocks. You can download the pattern HERE.
~November’s Swap will be items made with modern holiday fabric. Please WRAP YOUR SWAP ITEMS. 

~ The Quilt-Along reveal is finally here! If you swapped strips for the Quilt Along back in March, bring your finished projects to November’s meeting so we can applaud your creativity.
