September Meeting Highlights

September is back-to-school time, and it’s no different for the PMQG. This month member’s attended Finishing Boot Camp, learning techniques for binding, finishing and hanging their quilts.

~ Our big This is My Modern Quilt Guild Challenge is underway! We have a spot to showcase our challenge quilts at Mid-Atlantic in February, so let’s rise to the challenge and show ’em what we’ve got! There is no size limit on finished challenge quilts, so every member is encouraged to participate. 
~ In 2015 our meetings will be moving to the first Saturday of the month! See the Meetings tab above for dates and program info.

Divided Baskets. Purchase your pattern HERE. Prep directions can be found HERE. Please come prepared.  Our meeting time has been extended so no one goes home with a UFO!

      -Sewing machine & supplies
      – Extension cords/power strips
      – Pattern & Pieces
     

~ Bibs for the senior center are DUE!

~ Please let us know what you plan to donate for the Chinese Auction by October’s meeting. Items need to be turned in at November’s meeting. 
~ October’s Block of the Month is a Modern Pumpkin block. Don’t forget – anyone can be a block angel by making an extra block or more for charity quilts!
~ DON’T FORGET to bring a little somethin’ for your secret pal!

In August we sliced and diced up some fun Crisscross Placemats. These fun mats are super easy!

~ We’re swapping fat quarters! If you signed up, bring three (3) coordinating fat quarters for your swap partner. Want to be a Swap Angel? You can bring extras to put in our prize stash!
~ September’s Block of the Month is the Bow Tie Block. Use white as your background – it does not need to be Kona white. Don’t forget – anyone can be a block angel by making an extra block or more for charity quilts.
~ Don’t forget to bring a little somethin’ for your secret pal!

July Meeting Highlights

This month the PMQG beat the heat by staying in and sewing together! Members finished projects, worked on charity bibs and had fun getting to know each other better. 

It was also our “The World Isn’t Flat and Neither Is My Quilt” challenge reveal, and there was some fun interpretation of the theme.


Members exchanged some great looking quilted magnets in this month’s swap. 


NEXT MONTH:
~ In August we will be making Crisscross Place Mats. These are super easy, fun to make and perfect for gifts. If you’re fast you might have time to layer and turn them. 

     Supplies:
        – 4 coordinating fat quarters (tops)
        – Sewing machine, scissors, thread, rotary cutter, ruler and mat
        – Power strips and extension cords
To complete them you will need:

        – 4 batting pieces measuring about 14″ x 20″ each
        – 7/8 yard of backing fabric

~ The August Block of the Month is a Modern Log Cabin.
~ Malinda will present the next Guild Challenge.  We have a spot to showcase our challenges at Mid-Atlantic in February, so let’s rise tot he challenge and show ’em what we’ve got!

2014 Raffle Quilt Winner

Congratulations to Jenna S. from Richmond, VA, winner of the PMQG’s first raffle quilt! Jenna picked up her prize on July 4th, which also happens to be her birthday! Her immediate plan is to hang the quilt in her home and show it off to everyone who visits.

Hello, summer!
The PMQG held its First Annual Guild Picnic, and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day to kick off the summer season. 

The Block of the month was Bring Your Own Block. All these colors looked like summer itself. 
You can’t have a picnic without the yum!

~ UPDATE: July’s meeting will be a sew day! Members are encouraged to bring a project to work on. If using your machine, please bring a long extension cord/power strip. 

Secret Pals were assigned. Don’t forget to show your SP some love every month!
~ If you signed up, July’s swap is quilted magnets. A list of our upcoming swaps can be found on the Challenges/Swaps tab above. 
~ July’s block of the month is Golden Gate. Don’t forget to use modern fabrics. If in doubt, choose a fabric that’s one color plus white. 
~ We’re still waiting on word about our new meeting place. Check back for updates!
Name tags will be passed out at July’s meeting. Beginning in July anyone caught without a name tag will be “fined” 25 cents.
